'Sweet game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the court.
She stated his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer program which he operated.
The defendant engaged in a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the next day.
She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had concerns in July 2025.
The prosecutor continued: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about the activities, for good reason.
"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC said objects including baby oil, Vaseline and syringes were found, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She explained the defendant went on to engage in the "candy game" with six children that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that point," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the incident.
Mrs Prior said the minors were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the family member called the police once more.
She explained the man then conducted the "sweet game" in a area of five children.
