Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck two times late to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
